Robert L. Mainardi, CFSA, MBA
After 21 years of working in Internal Audit profession in the financial services industry, Robert has started his own company which develops and facilitates custom internal audit training as well as evaluating, creating, and implementing formal audit methodologies. Prior to starting his company, Robert L. Mainardi was the Vice President of Internal Audit for the Penn Mutual Life Ins. Co. and was responsible for the direction and oversight of the Internal Audit Department. He was responsible for Penn Mutual’s internal audit activities, as well as those of its subsidiaries. Prior to joining Penn Mutual, he was a Senior Audit Manager for The Vanguard Group where he was responsible for the Investment Programs & Services and Methods & Infrastructure teams.

professional association conferences each year as well as the annual
IIA
International, GAM, and All Star Conferences. He received a
BS degree
from The Pennsylvania State University where he majored in Accounting
and
Business Law. He

Session Synopsis
This course identifies the top five mistakes that audit departments make and presents solutions for addressing them. In addition, throughout the course, the auditor is challenged with “critical assessment” questions which asks them to take an independent view of their department and assess their department honestly.

Session Synopsis
Enterprise Risk Management has long been a topic for auditors and organization management alike. The big question is how do you turn this concept into functional reality in your organization? Dr. Paul Walker has been at the forefront of risk management from its inception. He will cover practical implementations of ERM, relating the experiences of a number of major companies.
Paul L. Walker, PhD, CPA
Dr. Paul L. Walker is an accounting professor at the University of Virginia. Dr. Walker co-developed one of the first courses on Enterprise Risk Management. He has taught ERM at the University of Virginia, to numerous executives groups and to boards. Dr. Walker has also served as a visiting fellow at the London School of Economics Centre for the Analysis of Risk.
Dr. Walker was one of the
original consultants to COSO on their Enterprise Risk Management
process and framework and has served as an advisor to both small and
large organizations on Enterprise Risk Management (including the
Federal Reserve Bank, several Fortune 500 companies, a leading
university, and international companies). Additionally, Dr. Walker has
been invited to train ERM to international audiences, including
companies with operations in South Korea, Japan, and Belgium.
Dr. Walker has visited the headquarters of some major
companies (e.g., Wal-Mart, Microsoft, DuPont and others) to study their
ERM processes. Dr. Walker has coauthored numerous manuscripts on
Enterprise Risk Management including the books Making Enterprise Risk
Management Pay Off and Enterprise Risk Management: Pulling it All
Together. He has also coauthored several articles on ERM including:
Managing Risk: An Enterprise-Wide Approach, A Road Map to ERM, and ERM
and the Strategy-Risk Focused Organization.
Session Synopsis
This interactive seminar will address resource
allocation to assist in fraud prevention and detection. A l;ist
of recommended entry level audits to assess the control environment
will be included in the discussion. The session will address
adopting a fraud strategy, enterprise-wide fraud risk, and fraud tools,
and engagement planning for fraud.
Glenn E. Sumners, DBA, CIA, CPA, CFE
is on the faculty of
Louisiana State University where he teaches internal auditing in the
Center for
Internal Auditing. Prior to receiving his DBA at the University of
Tennessee,
he received a BS and MA from the University of Alabama.
Professor Sumners has over ten years professional
experience in industry,
consulting, and public accounting. This experience includes three years
as the
Controller of ESP.
Professor Sumners has authored two IIA Monographs,
“Developing the
Internal Auditor’s Leadership Skills” and
“Conducting Internal Audit
Interviews.” In addition, he has authored articles in
Managerial Auditing
Journal, Auditing: A Journal of Practice and Theory, Internal Auditing,
Internal Auditor and others. He serves on the Internal Auditor
Editorial
Advisory Board and the editorial team of the International Journal of
Auditing.
He currently serves as an IIA Research Foundation Trustee.
He is the Director of the Louisiana State University
Center for Internal
Auditing. He was named Educator-of-the-Year in 1987 by the IIA and
received the
LCPA Lifetime Achievement in Accounting Education Award in 1999. Twelve
students from the LSUCIA Program have won international awards for the
highest
score on the CIA exam. He received the 2001 CIA Academic Outreach
International
Award.
CIA Exam Review
This year, all four parts of the CIA Exam will be covered in the CIA Exam Review. Part 1 will be offered all day Monday, October 19; Part 2 all day on Tuesday, October 20; Part 3 will be covered in two full days, on Wednesday, October 21 and Thursday, October 22; and Part 4 is a half-day session on Friday morning, October 23.
